Boeing Supports Successful Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense Flight Test #6
ST. LOUIS, Dec. 11, 2003 -- Sub-systems developed by Boeing [NYSE:BA] continued to play a key role in the 4th successful intercept test today of Flight Mission-6 (FM-6) for the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System at Pacific Missile Range Facility, Kauai, Hawaii.
FM-6 is part of an ongoing flight test series to develop the Aegis ballistic missile defense system against short- to medium-range ballistic missiles, as well as part of the Missile Defense Agency's developmental flight test program against more complex and stressing ballistic missile engagement scenarios.
Boeing has been teamed with Raytheon Company, the prime contractor for the program, since 1996, and is under subcontract to build and integrate major subcomponents of the Standard Missile-3 (SM-3)Kinetic Warhead. Boeing is responsible for the guidance unit, ejector, Kinetic Warhead environmental testing and integration.
"Successful intercepts against increasingly complex and challenging targets validate hit-to-kill technology using kinetic energy," said Debra Rub, vice president, Air & Missile Defense Systems, for Boeing. "We will continue to work with the Missile Defense Agency and Raytheon to prove and field this system to meet the current administration's commitment to provide a sea-based missile defense capability to protect our homeland and U.S. troops abroad, as well as our allies and friends."
