Concerning Information on Upcoming Spacecraft Launches in Russian Federation

1348-07-06-2003

In pursuance of its course towards broadening openness and increasing confidence in the field of space activities and in the interest of ensuring the predictability of the utilization of outer space Russia has come up with an initiative to provide the international community beforehand with information on its upcoming launches of spacecraft, their purpose and basic parameters.

Such information on space launches in Russia is currently placed on the Russian MFA Internet site (www.mid.ru):

in the Russian language - in the Russia in the System of International Relations section (the first-level subsection "Russia - International Structures," the second-level subsection "Russia's Positions on International Security, Strategic Stability, Disarmament, Arms Control and Export Control," and the third-level subsection "Information on Upcoming Spacecraft Launches in the Russian Federation"); in the English language - in a special section of the English-language version of the site.

Russia is carrying out this initiative on the assumption that the other space powers possessing their own facilities for the launching of space objects could also join in this measure for ensuring openness and strengthening confidence in the space field, which would generally contribute to enhancing the peaceful status of outer space.
