VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. - An unarmed Peacekeeper intercontinental ballistic missile was successfully launched March 12 at 1:29 a.m.
This launch was a combined effort by the 30th Space Wing, the 576th Flight Test Squadron here and a task force from the 90th Space Wing at F.E. Warren AFB Wyo., which actually performed the launch.
The Peacekeeper carried eight unarmed re-entry vehicles approximately 4,800 miles across the Pacific Ocean to a predetermined target at the Kwajalien Atoll. This test was a part of the Force Development Evaluation program, which routinely verifies the accuracy and reliability of the Peacekeeper force.
Vandenberg conducted its first operational test of the peacekeeper weapon system June 17, 1983.
