BAE SYSTEMS delivers satellite communications to NATO
27 Aug 2002
BAE Systems C4ISR has completed the delivery of three of the newly designed Talon transportable satellite communications terminals, leased by the UK Defence Procurement Agency, to the headquarters of NATO's Allied Command Europe Rapid Reaction Corps (ARRC) near Rheindalen, Germany, from where they will be deployed wherever needed to enhance the Command's operational effectiveness.
Building upon previous successful highly mobile systems such as Dagger, TSC503, Trailblazer and CREST, the BAE Systems Talon incorporates a range of commercial off-the-shelf components integrated to provide military features - such as satellite tracking and use of both defence and civil frequency bands - in a flyaway package.
The leasing contract, fulfilled by the Communications & Defence Infrastructure team of BAE Systems C4ISR at Christchurch, Dorset, is for an extendable fixed term.
Talon was also recently selected by Astrium, acting on behalf of Paradigm Secure Services, to form an initial rapidly deployable capability within the UK Ministry of Defence's Skynet 5 global military communications programme.
