
Galileo Services founded to support Galileo programme

Representatives of the companies Eutelsat SA, FDC, Hispasat, Indra, Kongsberg-Seatex AS, Septentrio, Telespazio and Thales this morning signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the creation of Galileo Services. Galileo Services is a group of companies having strong interest in the future Galileo downstream business.
Galileo Services is designed to be a major partner for the Galileo downstream technology and business development (terminals, applications and services), with a view to sustaining the Galileo programme. The aim is to foster an "end to end" vision of the Galileo system in order to fully respond to user and market needs.
Galileo Services will work to bolster the economic value of the Galileo system, and intends to contribute towards the development of value-added services to fully exploit all possible business potential.
According to the vision of Galileo Services members, Galileo will strongly enhance the capabilities of satellite navigation, allowing the development of the incumbent location-based services market.
Galileo Services aims to develop technologies and test out services and applications that can fulfil market expectations, leading to significant job creation opportunities and benefits offered by Galileo in terms of added safety, cleaner air and enhanced transport infrastructures.
Eutelsat is Europe's leading satellite operator, providing seemless coverage across four continents. Eutelsat delivers TV and radio broadcasting services, corporate network solutions, a portfolio IP applications and mobile services for fleet management.
FDC is an independent research and consultancy firm specialised in satellite navigation and positioning. FDC has an excellent knowledge of all positioning systems and technologies, combined with in-depth experience of the industrial environment.
Hispasat is an experienced satellite operator for private and governement Telecom applications: DTH digital distribution, VSAT networks, Internet high speed access and back-bone. Hispasat has a strong presence in Europe and in the Americas.
Indra is a spanish private company, whose main activities are oriented towards the development of system solutions based on the extensive use of IT. Indra has a wide experience in space applications, as provider of value-added services.
Kongsberg-Seatex is a leading international marine electronics manufacturer, specialising in positioning and motion sensing systems. Kongsberg-Seatex provides quality products and solutions for safe navigation and operations at sea (commercial off-shore, maritime, hydrography and defence industries).
Septentrio is a European start-up company that is designing and marketing high-end GNSS receivers, based upon Septentrio's proprietary chips and algorithms. During its young history, Septentrio has gained recognition as a new source of advanced receiver technology.
Telespazio, a company of the Telecom Italia Group, is a world leader in satellite service provisioning. Telespazio has a considerable experience in a wide spectrum of satellite missions and value-added services.
Thales is the third largest GNSS receiver manufacturer in the world. Thales is also a world leader in service provision in Satellite navigation and telematics. Thales operates the largest and highest performance DGPS commercial network.
