ARROW Weapon System Scores Another Successful Test
Aug 27, 2001
Another successful test of the ARROW Weapon System was conducted today at 12:50 p.m. at an Israel Air Force (IAF) test site.
The test was a regular system test against a "Black Sparrow" target and was the ninth in a series.
The target was launched from an IAF Aircraft toward the shores of Israel, to simulate an incoming ballistic missile.
Initial results indicate that all components of the weapon system: the Green Pine radar, the Citron Tree fire control, and the Arrow missile preformed as planned. All the test objectives were achieved and the target was destroyed.
The Arrow weapon system is deployed and operated by the Israel Air Force. It can intercept all types of Tactical Ballistic Missiles (TBM) threats existing in the region. Arrow was developed because of these existing threats.
The Arrow program is a joint U.S./Israel effort to develop and deploy an anti-ballistic missile defense system for the state of Israel. The information gained from the program has potential applications in several U.S. missile defense programs.
Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMOD) manages the program, in collaboration with U.S. Army PEO Missile Defense and with the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO).
Israel Aircraft Industries, MLM Division is the prime contractor for the Arrow weapon system as well as the developer of the missile and launcher. Tadiran systems are the developer of the Citron Tree fire control center. Elta Electronics Industries Ltd. a wholly owned subsidiary of Israel Aircraft Industries Ltd., is the developer of the Green Pine radar and Rafael is the developer of the Black Sparrow target.
