
ATK Solid Propulsion Motors Help Launch Air Force Navigational Satellite Aboard Boeing Delta II Rocket

ATK (Alliant Techsystems, NYSE: ATK) said nine of its solid propulsion rocket motors helped successfully launch a Global Positioning System (GPS) navigational satellite into orbit from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla. on Jan. 30.
The launch brings to 610 the number of ATK motors that have flown on 76 successful Delta II missions since the company began manufacturing them in 1989.
The U.S. Air Force has used Boeing Delta rockets to place every GPS satellite into orbit since 1989. Currently, 29 operational satellites make up the GPS constellation.
The Delta II motors are manufactured by ATK Aerospace Propulsion Company, Magna, Utah, which is part of ATK's Aerospace segment. The segment employs approximately 2,300 people in California, Colorado, Florida, Mississippi, New York, Utah, and West Virginia.
