Arrow Weapon System Success

Nov 1, 1999

Issued by the Communication Ministry of Defense Spokesman

The first complete system-wide test of the Arrow Weapon System (AWS) was successfully conducted today at the Israeli Air Force (IAF) test site.

The system-wide test started with the launch of the target, simulating a ballistic missile, from a ship in the Mediterranean. The AWS radar detected the target, and the Fire Control Center issued the launch command to the ARROW II interceptor missile. The ARROW II launched successfully, acquired the target and destroyed it.

This resounding success of the complete Arrow Weapon System test demonstrates that the system passed the critical milestone in its path to initial operational capability and all its components perform as planned.

The success is the result of dedicated and professional work by all participants: The industrial team, headed by Israel Aircraft Industries? MLM Division ? the prime contractor and developers of the ARROW II interceptor, ELTA Electronics Industries, Ltd., a subsidiary of Israel Aircraft Industries, Ltd. ? the radar developers and TADIRAN Ltd. ? the Fire Control Center developers, and the customer team headed by Israel Ministry of Defense/Missile Defense Organization and the US Army Arrow Project Office (Huntsville, Alabama).
