76th Helicopter Flight

The 76th Helicopter Flight conducts helicopter flight operations supporting 30th Space Wing. It provides fire suppression for post-launch disaster control and Wildland Vegetation Management Program.

The 76th also provides security surveillance and response for NASA Space Shuttle recovery operations and 30th Space Wing launch activities.

It is tasked as well with supporting transportation requests for priority personnel and cargo; and with providing aerial photographic platform for launch documentation.

The 76th operates 5 UH-1N Huey helicopters equipped with GPS, Hoist, Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR), Night Vision Goggles (NVG) and the Night Sun searchlight. We utilize the Forest Penetrator, Stokes Litter, Rescue Basket, Fire Bucket, Fast Rope, Rope Ladder, Cargo Sling and Rappel Equipment for our missions.

Assiting the 76th Helicopter Flight is a team of 14 Civilian Maintenance Technicians operating on a $700,000 contract with Dynamic Science, Inc.

The 76th Rescue Flight was initially activated in December of 1973. At that time, the unit acquired 3 single-engine UH-1F helicopters. Later in 1976, the 76th converted to the UH-1N model currently used.

The unit has since been renamed the 76th Helicopter Flight. Since its inception, and as of mid-2001, the 76th had saved over 145 lives.
