An Iranian Islamic Revolution Court in Shiraz has sentenced 3 of the 7 remaining perpetrators convicted of terrorism charges related to the Shahcheragh attacks to death.
Shahcheragh Shrine, a major religious site in southern Iran, came under deadly terrorist attacks in 2022 and 2023 with the Daesh militant group claiming responsibility.
According to the chief justice of Fars province, Seyyed Sadrollah Rajaei-Nasab, the three so-called masterminds of the attack were sentenced to death for their major roles in the terrorist operations amounting to the Islamic definition "of spreading corruption on earth." The three main perps also received 25-year jail sentences, as well.
Two members of Daesh received prison terms of 10 and 15 years for their involvement in providing guns, munitions, and other logistical support, while two women were sentenced to five years each, he said.
He added that due to Islamic leniency and the special circumstances of the convicted women, their sentences will be served outside prison under electronic monitoring within a one-kilometer radius of their homes.
The Judiciary official said the Islamic Revolution Court of Shiraz closed the case after months of investigations and hearings. However, he added, other cases linked to it remained open.
