Tehran, IRNA -- Twenty-seven Iranians have lost their lives to COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, showing a considerable decline in death toll as compared to yesterday.

The overall death toll from the pandemic has increased to 145,808, according to the latest official data.

The health ministry said in its daily tally that 324 people tested positive over the past 24 hours to Saturday afternoon, a significant drop from recent days when new cases had spiked. A total of 170 patients were hospitalized in the same period.

Currently, 804 patients with COVID-19 are receiving care in intensive units in hospitals across the country, it added.

In the latest updates to its coronavirus-tracking map, the ministry categorizes 12 cities as "red" or high risk for the spread of the virus. The number of orange cities fell from 76 to 61.

Health officials are calling on Iranians to get vaccinated with booster shots.
