Taiwan reports 20,511 new COVID-19 cases, 36 deaths

Taipei, Feb. 14 (CNA) Taiwan reported 20,511 new cases of COVID-19 and 36 deaths from the disease on Tuesday, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The 20,116 domestic cases represented a nearly 12.5-percent decline from the same day the previous week, according to CECC data.

The CECC said the deceased ranged in age from their 40s to their 90s. All but one of them had underlying health conditions, while 23 of them had not gotten at least three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Also on Tuesday, the CECC reported 23 new COVID-19 cases classified as moderate and 25 as severe.

Regional breakdown

Regionally, New Taipei recorded the highest number of new cases with 3,715, followed by Kaohsiung with 2,530 and Taichung with 2,423.

Taoyuan reported 2,033 cases, Tainan 1,785, Taipei 1,772, Changhua 1,004, Pingtung 585, Hsinchu County 560, Miaoli 514, Yilan 502, Yunlin 497, Hsinchu City 436, and Nantou 334.

Chiayi County had 326 cases, Keelung 324, Hualien 297, Chiayi City 213, Taitung 130, Penghu 64, Kinmen 59, and the Matsu Islands 13.

To date, Taiwan has recorded 9,842,257 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 52,427 classified as imported.

With 36 deaths reported on Tuesday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country rose to 17,193.
