
Taiwan reports 18,300 new COVID-19 cases, 82 deaths

Taipei, Feb. 11 (CNA) Taiwan reported 18,300 new cases of COVID-19 and 82 deaths from the disease on Saturday, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The deceased ranged in age from their 40s to their 90s. All but three had underlying health conditions, while 40 of them were unvaccinated against COVID-19, the CECC said.
Also on Saturday, the CECC reported 132 new COVID-19 cases classified as moderate and 73 as severe.
Regional breakdown
Regionally, New Taipei recorded the highest number of new cases with 3,500, followed by Kaohsiung with 2,245 and Taichung with 2,195.
Taoyuan reported 2,015 cases, Taipei 1,649, Tainan 1,475, Changhua 866, Pingtung 508, Hsinchu County 493, Hsinchu City 420, Yunlin 416, Miaoli 379, Yilan 376, and Keelung 332.
Nantou had 262 cases, Chiayi County 251, Hualien 244, Chiayi City 162, Taitung 99, Penghu 76, Kinmen 33, and the Matsu Islands four.
To date, Taiwan has recorded 9,791,908 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 51,667 classified as imported.
With the 82 deaths reported on Saturday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country rose to 17,046.
