
Taiwan reports 20,920 new COVID-19 cases, 45 deaths

Taipei, Feb. 9 (CNA) Taiwan on Thursday reported 20,920 new cases of COVID-19 and 45 deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The deceased ranged in age from their 50s to their 90s. All but three had underlying health conditions, while 32 of them had not received three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, the CECC said.
Also on Thursday, the CECC reported 181 new COVID-19 cases classified as moderate and 48 as severe.
Regional breakdown
Regionally, New Taipei recorded the highest number of new cases, with 3,990, followed by Taichung with 2,566 and Kaohsiung with 2,495.
Taoyuan reported 2,259 new cases, Taipei 1,885, Tainan 1,743, Changhua 968, Hsinchu County 647, Hsinchu City 522, Pingtung 515, Miaoli 456, Yunlin 450, and Keelung 425.
Yilan had 416 cases, Nantou 311, Chiayi County 251, Hualien 251, Chiayi City 186, Taitung 118, Kinmen 55, Penghu 50 and the Matsu Islands 13, the CECC said.
To date, Taiwan has recorded 9,754,006 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 51,172 classified as imported.
With the 45 deaths reported on Thursday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country rose to 16,894.
