
Taiwan reports 14,284 new COVID-19 cases, 24 deaths

Taipei, Dec. 10 (CNA) Taiwan reported 14,284 new COVID-19 infections, all but 54 were domestic cases, and 24 deaths on Saturday, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The new number of cases represented an 8.6-percent increase from the same day a week earlier, CECC data showed.
The deceased reported on Saturday ranged in age from their 20s to their 90s. All had underlying health conditions, while 10 of them had not gotten any doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, the CECC said.
Meanwhile, the CECC reported 128 cases classified as moderate and 28 as severe.
One of the deaths reported Saturday involved a man in his 20s with blood disorders who had not received any COVID-19 vaccine doses, according to the CECC.
The man first tested positive for COVID-19 on June 18.
After developing symptoms including fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and coughing up blood on Nov. 25, the man was admitted to intensive care on Nov. 29, where he died later that same day due to bacteremia, septic shock, and complications from COVID-19, the CECC said.
Regional breakdown
Regionally, New Taipei reported the highest number of new cases with 2,250, followed by Taichung with 1,961 and Kaohsiung with 1,701.
Taoyuan recorded 1,664 new cases, Taipei 1,394, Tainan 1,060, Changhua 815, Hsinchu County 472, Hsinchu City 433, Miaoli 399, Pingtung 359, Yunlin 310 and Nantou 273.
Chiayi County had 224 cases, Yilan 203, Keelung 179, Chiayi City 157, Hualien 156, Taitung 91, Kinmen 85, Penghu 41 and the Matsu Islands three.
To date, Taiwan has recorded 8,456,104 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 38,213 classified as imported.
With the 24 deaths reported on Saturday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country rose to 14,641.
