
Taiwan reports 22,692 new COVID-19 cases, 69 deaths

Taipei, Nov. 16 (CNA) Taiwan reported 22,692 new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday, all but 61 of which were locally transmitted, and 69 deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The new cases represented an 8.7-percent drop from a week earlier, the CECC said.
The deceased ranged in age from their 50s to their 90s. All but two had underlying conditions, and 34 were unvaccinated against COVID-19, the CECC said.
Meanwhile, the CECC also reported 59 new cases classified as severe and 79 classified as moderate.
Regional breakdown
On Wednesday, New Taipei reported the highest number of new cases with 3,819, followed by Kaohsiung with 3,046 and Taichung with 2,815.
Taoyuan reported 2,591 cases, Taipei 2,085, Tainan 2,072, Changhua County 1,105, Pingtung County 738, Hsinchu County 631, Miaoli County 545, and Hsinchu City 530.
Yunlin County had 526 cases, Chiayi County 395, Nantou County 361, Yilan County 336, Keelung 322, Chiayi City 248, Hualien County 245, Taitung County 130, Kinmen 49, Penghu 37, and the Matsu islands 5, the CECC said.
To date, Taiwan has recorded 8,092,118 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 37,073 classified as imported.
With the 69 deaths reported Wednesday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country rose to 13,714.
