
Taiwan reports 18,558 new COVID-19 cases, 43 deaths

Taipei, Nov. 15 (CNA) Taiwan on Tuesday reported 18,558 new COVID-19 infections, all but 49 of which were locally transmitted, and 43 deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The new cases represented a 25.8 percent drop from a week earlier, and marked the fourth consecutive day in which the total was under 20,000, the CECC said.
The deceased ranged in age from their 50 to their 90s, and all but one had underlying health issues, while 22 were unvaccinated against COVID-19, the CECC said.
Meanwhile, the CECC also reported 38 new cases classified as severe and 44 classified as moderate.
Of the 7,999,267 confirmed COVID-19 infections this year, 15,037 have been classified as severe and 20,502 as moderate, accounting for 0.19 percent and 0.25 percent of the total, respectively, according to CECC data.
Regional breadown
On Tuesday, New Taipei reported the highest number of new cases, with 2,742, followed by Kaohsiung with 2,569 and Taichung with 2,064.
Tainan reported 1,894 cases, Taipei 1,709, Taoyuan 1,708, Changhua 999, Pingtung 755, Yunlin 621, Miaoli 515, Chiayi County 456, and Hsinchu County 428.
Hsinchu City had 376 cases, Nantou 366, Chiayi City 308, Yilan 251, Keelung 236, Hualien 227, Taitung 157, Kinmen 74, Penghu 53 and the Matsu Islands 1, the CECC said.
To date, Taiwan has recorded 8,069,442 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 37,023 classified as imported.
With the 43 deaths reported on Tuesday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country rose to 13,645.
