Taiwan reports 19,224 new COVID-19 cases, 60 deaths

Taipei, Nov. 12 (CNA) Taiwan's Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported 19,224 new COVID-19 infections Saturday, all but 52 of which were locally transmitted, and 60 deaths from the disease.

Regionally, New Taipei reported the highest number of new cases, with 3,038, followed by Kaohsiung with 2,720 and Taichung with 2,497.

Taoyuan reported 1,951 new cases, Tainan 1,948, Taipei 1,621, Changhua 935, Pingtung 651, Yunlin 501, Hsinchu County 490, Hsinchu City 431 and Miaoli 424.

Nantou County had 364 cases, Chiayi 346, Yilan 296, Keelung 296, Chiayi City 255, Hualien 181, Taitung 125, Kinmen 50, Penghu 42 and the Matsu Islands 10, the CECC said.

To date, Taiwan has recorded 8,015,698 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 36,897 classified as imported.

With the 60 deaths reported on Saturday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country rose to 13,501.

Of the 7,944,988 confirmed COVID-19 infections this year, 0.19 percent have been classified as severe and 0.26 percent as moderate, according to CECC data as of Nov. 11.
