
Taiwan reports 24,355 new COVID-19 cases, 47 deaths

Taipei, Nov. 6 (CNA) Taiwan's Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported 24,355 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, all but 46 of which were domestically transmitted, and 47 deaths from the disease.
The 24,355 new cases represented a 22.8-percent drop from a week earlier, the CECC stated.
The deceased ranged in age from their 20s to their 90s, and all but one had underlying health issues, while 20 were unvaccinated against COVID-19, the CECC said.
With the 47 deaths reported on Sunday, the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Taiwan now stands at 13,198, according to the CECC.
Meanwhile, the CECC reported 120 new cases classified as moderate and 41 as severe, including a 14-year-old boy with two vaccine jabs who had no chronic disease history.
The teen patient was hospitalized because of a traffic accident, and he tested positive for the disease prior to an operation, the CECC sai, adding that he has been transferred to an intensive care unit after the operation for ongoing treatment.
Regional breakdown
Regionally, New Taipei City reported the highest number of new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, with 4,035, followed by Taichung with 3,350, and Kaohsiung with 3,309.
Taoyuan reported 2,395 new cases, Tainan 2,365, Taipei 2,203, Changhua County 1,151, Pingtung County 785, Hsinchu County 606, Yunlin County 600, Hsinchu City 584, Miaoli County 473, and Chiayi County 468.
Nantou County had 449 cases, Keelung 348, Yilan County 345, Chiayi City 310, Hualien County 241, Taitung County 150, Kinmen 78, Penghu 60, and the Matsu islands four cases, the CECC said.
Since the start of the pandemic in early 2020, Taiwan has recorded 7,887,538 COVID-19 infections, including 36,659 imported cases.
