Taipei, Oct. 29 (CNA) Taiwan's Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported 32,520 new COVID-19 infections Saturday, including 34 imported cases, and 76 deaths from the disease.
The deaths reported Saturday involved individuals who ranged in age from their 20s to their 90s, the CECC said. All but eight had underlying health issues, while 43 were not fully vaccinated against COVID-19, the CECC added.
The youngest death was a woman in her 20s who had received three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, CECC spokesperson Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥) said in a pre-recorded video.
She had congenital heart disease and was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Oct. 14, Chuang said, noting that the woman died on Oct. 25 due to pneumonia with psychogenic shock and confirmed COVID-19.
Severe COVID-19 cases
Meanwhile, the CECC also reported 83 new cases classified as severe and 184 as moderate.
Among the severe cases is a 13-year-old teenager who tested positive for COVID-19 on Oct. 9, the CECC said, adding that the boy was rushed to emergency care on Oct. 24 after developing a severe headache.
A CT scan found that he had intracranial hemorrhaging and high blood pressure, with confirmed COVID-19 through a polymerase chain reaction test, the CECC said.
The young patient underwent surgery on Oct. 25, Chuang said.
His condition has since improved and he was transferred to an ordinary ward on Oct. 27, where he continues to be treated, Chuang added.
The boy may have already had arteriovenous malformation at birth as this condition was unlikely to have been triggered by COVID-19, the CECC official said.
However, Chuang added that it could not be ruled out that his intracranial hemorrhaging was due to COVID-19.
