Taiwan records 40,317 new COVID-19 cases, 52 deaths

Taipei, Oct. 26 (CNA) Taiwan reported 40,317 new COVID-19 infections, including 56 imported cases, and 52 deaths from the disease on Wednesday, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The deceased ranged in age from their 30s to their 90s, and all but four had underlying health issues, while 25 had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, the CECC said.

On Wednesday, the CECC also reported 151 cases that were newly classified as moderate and 53 as severe, including three children aged under 10, with two having gotten two vaccine doses and one not having been vaccinated.

All three children had no underlying chronic issues, according to the CECC.

Regionally, New Taipei recorded the highest number of new COVID-19 infections with 7,066, while Taichung had 5,391, Kaohsiung 4,789, Taoyuan 4,053, Taipei 3,939, and Tainan 3,597, according to the CECC.

Changhua County reported 2,094 cases, Pingtung County 1,419, Hsinchu County 948, Hsinchu City 917, Yunlin County 902, Miaoli County 849, Chiayi County 759, and Nantou County 736.

Keelung reported 654 cases, Yilan County 652, Hualien County 479, Chiayi City 448, Taitung County 275, Kinmen County 185, Penghu County 103, and the Matsu islands six, according to CECC data.

Taiwan has recorded 7,555,884 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, including 36,174 classified as imported, and 12,479 deaths from the disease.
