
Taiwan reports 26,357 new COVID-19 cases, 62 deaths

Taipei, Oct. 24 (CNA) Taiwan reported 26,357 new COVID-19 infections, including 21 imported cases, and 62 deaths from the disease on Monday, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The deceased ranged in age from their 30s to their 90s, and all but two had underlying health issues, while 32 had not been vaccinated against COVID-19, the CECC said.
The 26,357 new infections represented an 8.6 percent weekly drop in the number of cases, the CECC said, adding that it will adjust its disease prevention rules based on the development of the COVID-19 situation in Taiwan.
Last week, Taiwan recorded 266,020 new COVID-19 cases, a 14.8 percent decline from the previous week when the number was 312,085, according to CECC data.
On Monday, the CECC also reported 61 cases that were newly classified as severe and 75 as moderate.
Regional breakdown
Regionally, New Taipei recorded the highest number of new COVID-19 infections, with 4,717, while Taichung had 3,465, Kaohsiung 3,009, Taoyuan 2,958, Taipei 2,474, and Tainan 2,196, according to the CECC.
Changhua County reported 1,464 cases, Pingtung County 753, Hsinchu County 699, Yunlin County 649, Hsinchu City 590, Miaoli County 548, Nantou County 525, and Chiayi County 461.
Yilan County reported 427 cases, Keelung 374, Chiayi City 347, Hualien County 337, Taitung County 132, Kinmen County 115, Penghu County 92, and the Matsu Islands 4, according to CECC data.
Taiwan has recorded 7,476,478 COVID-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, including 36,072 classified as imported, and 12,385 deaths from the disease.
