
Taiwan reports 41,438 new COVID-19 cases, 36 deaths

Taipei, Oct. 11 (CNA) Taiwan reported 41,438 new COVID-19 infections and 36 deaths from the disease Tuesday, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The deceased ranged in age from their 30s to 90s. All but three had underlying health issues, and 19 had not received any COVID-19 vaccine doses, the CECC said in a statement.
With 36 deaths reported on Tuesday, the number of COVID-19 fatalities in Taiwan reached 11,620 since the pandemic began in early 2020, according to the CECC.
The CECC also reported 35 cases that were newly classified as severe and 39 as moderate.
The 41,438 new infections were 16.5 percent lower than last Tuesday, marking the second consecutive day for which total case numbers were lower than the same day in the previous week, according to the CECC.
However, the pandemic in Taiwan is still plateauing, the CECC warned, saying that more observations are required to see whether the number of cases will lessen soon.
Regional breakdown
Regionally, New Taipei reported the highest number of new infections on Tuesday with 7,719, while Taichung had 5,657, Kaohsiung 4,392, Taipei 3,959, Taoyuan 3,836, and Tainan 3,153, the CECC said.
Changhua County had 2,543 new cases, Pingtung County 1,299, Yunlin County 1,103, Yilan County 1,052, Miaoli County 1,000, Hsinchu County 999, Chiayi County 809, and Hsinchu City 767.
Nantou County had 714 new cases, Keelung City 606, Hualien County 599, Chiayi City 522, Taitung County 255, Kinmen County 207, Penghu County 157, and the Matsu Islands 16, according to the CECC.
To date, Taiwan has recorded 6,945,018 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 35,524 cases classified as imported.
