
Taiwan reports 35,830 new COVID-19 cases, 30 deaths

Taipei, Sept. 10 (CNA) Taiwan reported 35,830 new cases of COVID-19 and 30 deaths from the disease on Saturday, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The deceased reported on Saturday ranged in age from their 40s to 90s. All but three suffered from chronic illnesses, and 14 had not received any dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Meanwhile, the CECC said 33 cases have been newly classified as severe and 81 as moderate.
MIS-C cases
Among the severe cases were two children, aged 2 and 8, respectively, who were diagnosed with multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), the epidemic center said.
Both had recently been discharged from the hospital after their conditions improved, it added.
Of the 5,569,412 domestically-transmitted cases recorded in Taiwan this year, 10,949 have been classified as severe infections and 14,090 as moderate, accounting for 0.20 percent and 0.25 percent of the total, respectively, according to CECC data as of Sept. 9.
Regional breakdown
Regionally, New Taipei reported the highest number of new cases on Saturday, with 7,646, followed by Taichung with 4,503 and Taipei with 4,503.
Taoyuan had 3,783 new cases, Kaohsiung 2,726, Tainan 2,038, Changhua 1,617, Hsinchu County 1,011, Yilan 937, Pingtung 887, Miaoli 841, Hsinchu City 822, Yunlin 779, Keelung 721, Nantou 666 and Hualien 662.
Chiayi County had 447 cases, Chiayi City 352, Taitung 257, Kinmen 179, Penghu 129, and the Matsu Islands 16, the CECC said.
To date, Taiwan has recorded 5,650,028 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, with a vast majority -- 5,619,582 cases -- contracted domestically.
With the 30 deaths reported Saturday, the total number of COVID-19 fatalities seen in the country since the beginning of the pandemic rose to 10,255.
