Taipei, July 19 (CNA) Taiwan reported 27,146 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, all but 367 cases imported, and 37 deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The higher number of imported cases can be attributed to rising COVID-19 cases internationally, the CECC said.

The number of deaths was the lowest reported in a day in over two months, and the deceased individuals ranged in age from their 20s to over 90.

Severe, moderate infections

Seventeen of those who died were unvaccinated, while 33 had chronic illnesses or other severe diseases. Among the four who had no chronic illness or other severe diseases, one had been unvaccinated and three had received three vaccine doses, the CECC said.

Also on Tuesday, the CECC said that 34 previously reported COVID-19 cases had become severe, while 41 other individuals had developed moderate symptoms.

Of the 4,251,352 domestic cases reported in Taiwan this year, 8,583 have been classified as severe infections, and 10,789 as moderate, accounting for 0.20 percent and 0.25 percent of the total, respectively, according to CECC data as of July 18.

In all other cases, the infected individuals were either asymptomatic or had mild symptoms, the CECC said.
