Several People Killed In Shooting At Copenhagen Shopping Mall

July 03, 2022

Copenhagen police say that several people were killed in a July 3 shooting at a shopping mall and that a 22-year-old male has been arrested.

"We know that there are several dead" and "several injured," police inspector Soren Thomassen told a news conference.

He said terrorism could not be ruled out and that the shooter likely acted alone. The suspect was described as an "ethnic Dane."

Thomassen did not provide further details on the victims or suspect or say how many people were killed or wounded.

Images of the scene at the Fields shopping mall showed people running out of the site, the largest shopping center in Denmark with 140 stores.

One witness said the shooter was carrying a hunting rifle.

Laurits Hermansen told Danish broadcaster DR he was in a clothing store at the shopping center when he heard "three-four bangs. Really loud bangs. It sounded like the shots were being fired just next to the store."

Copenhagen's main hospital told Reuters it had received a "small group of patients" for treatment and called in extra staff to handle the load.
