Taiwan reports 6,339 new COVID-19 cases, zero deaths

Taipei, April 26 (CNA) Taiwan on Tuesday reported 6,339 new COVID-19 cases as well as four new moderate infections but no deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The new daily cases, which marked a single-day high, consisted of 6,295 domestically transmitted infections and 44 cases that were contracted abroad.

The CECC also reported that four people, aged in their 60s to their 80s, had developed moderate infections.

The four individuals had received either two or three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, the CECC said.

Of the 36,567 domestic cases recorded nationwide from Jan. 1 to April 25, 107 were classified as moderate infections and nine as severe, accounting for 0.29 percent and 0.03 percent of the total, respectively.

All other cases have displayed either mild symptoms or have been asymptomatic, according to the CECC.

 



The figures do not include imported cases reclassified as domestic ones, nor retroactively removed cases. As of April 26, Taiwan recorded 42,844 domestic cases in 2022, while the total number of imported cases rose to 10,521 from 2,375 on Dec. 31, 2021.

New Taipei reported the highest number of domestic cases on Tuesday, with 2,076, followed by Taipei with 1,302, Taoyuan with 1,159, Keelung with 409, and Taichung with 263.

Hualien County reported 212 cases, Kaohsiung 182, Yilan County 126, Hsinchu County 99, Tainan 90, Changhua County 85, Pingtung County 71, Hsinchu City 63, Taitung County 38, Miaoli County 30, Chiayi County 28, Yunlin County 27, and Nantou County 17.

Kinmen County reported nine cases, Chiayi City five, Penghu County three, and the Matsu Islands one, the CECC said.

Meanwhile, of the 44 new imported cases, 22 were travelers who tested positive on arrival in Taiwan, according to the CECC.

To date, Taiwan has confirmed 68,022 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 57,447 domestically transmitted infections.

With no new deaths reported Tuesday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country remained at 856.
