Taiwan reports 1,390 new domestic COVID-19 cases, 90 imported

Taipei, April 18 (CNA) Taiwan on Monday reported 1,390 new domestic COVID-19 cases, a new record high, as well as 90 imported cases, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The number of domestic cases was the highest single-day figure recorded since the pandemic began in early 2020, and marked the fourth consecutive day that domestic case numbers surpassed 1,000.

New Taipei reported the highest number of new domestic cases with 500, followed by Taipei with 270, Taoyuan with 187, Keelung with 115, and Yilan County with 68.

Taiwan also reported 90 new imported cases on Monday, 63 of them travelers who had tested positive on arrival in Taiwan, according to the CECC.

To date, Taiwan has confirmed 35,983 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began, including 26,144 domestically transmitted infections, according to CECC data.

With no deaths reported Monday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country remained at 854.
