
Taiwan reports 382 domestic COVID-19 cases, 149 imported

Taipei, April 7 (CNA) Taiwan reported 531 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday -- 382 domestically transmitted and 149 imported - and no new deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The domestic case total exceeded 100 for the seventh consecutive day and was also the highest daily number this year, breaking the previous high of 281 recorded Wednesday.
New Taipei had the highest number of cases, with 111, followed by Taipei with 87, and Kaohsiung with 59, the CECC said.
Keelung recorded 41 cases, Taoyuan 28, Hualien 16, Chiayi eight, Hsinchu County seven, Tainan and Pingtung five each, Taichung four, and Hsinchu City three, the CECC said.
Kinmen, Yilan and Yunlin counties each recorded two cases, while Miaoli and Changhua each reported one, the CECC said.
Of the 2,342 domestic cases recorded between Jan. 1 and April 6, only five were moderate to severe infections, while the others were either mild or asymptomatic, according to the CECC.
Meanwhile, 149 new imported cases were reported Thursday, and 78 of them were travelers who tested positive on arrival in Taiwan, the CECC said.
To date, Taiwan has confirmed 25,756 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 17,327 domestically transmitted infections, according to CECC data.
With no deaths reported on Thursday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country remained at 853, the data showed.
