Taiwan reports 236 COVID-19 cases, including 104 domestic

Taipei, April 1 (CNA) Taiwan reported 236 new COVID-19 cases on Friday -- 104 domestically transmitted and 132 that originated abroad -- and no new deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

New Taipei had the highest number of new domestic cases at 40, followed by 20 each in Taoyuan and Keelung, and 12 in Taipei.

The other 12 new domestic cases were reported in Changhua Chounty (4), Hualien County (3), Taichung (2), Kaohsiung (2) and Hsinchu County (1).

The figures do not include imported cases reclassified as domestic ones, nor retroactively removed cases. As of April 1, Taiwan recorded 1,370 domestic cases in 2022, while the total number of imported cases rose to 7,602 from 2,375 on Dec. 31.

It was the first time the daily number of new domestic cases in Taiwan exceeded 100 in 2022.

Among the 1,266 domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases recorded between Jan. 1 and March 31, only three of the people infected developed serious complications, including one person who died.

The remaining 99.76 percent of those infected presented mild or no symptoms, Centers for Disease Control Deputy Director-General Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞) said at Friday's CECC press briefing.
