Taipei, March 25 (CNA) Taiwan reported 136 new COVID-19 cases on Friday -- 14 domestically transmitted and 122 that originated abroad -- and no new deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The ages of the 14 domestic COVID-19 cases ranged from their 20s to 50s, with 11 being contacts of recently confirmed cases, while authorities are still investigating the sources of the remaining three infections, CECC said.

The epidemic center also said it had reclassified a COVID-19 case that had been confirmed on March 19 as an imported infection to a domestically-transmitted one, following the results of a recent genome sequencing carried out on the patient.

The figures do not include imported cases reclassified as domestic ones, nor retroactively removed cases. As of March 25, Taiwan recorded 947 domestic cases in 2022, while the total number of imported cases rose to 6,738 from 2,375 on Dec. 31.

Meanwhile, the 122 new imported cases reported on Friday consisted of 61 males and 61 females with ages ranging from under 5 to 80-something.

These individuals entered Taiwan from Feb. 13 to March 24 this year from various countries including Vietnam, Indonesia, Germany, and the United States, as well as Hong Kong. Among them, 89 tested positive for the virus at the airport upon landing in Taiwan.

The CECC did not release any information regarding the vaccination status of the imported cases.

1. More doses of the Moderna and Pfizer-BNT vaccine have been administered in Taiwan than the government has officially received because recipients of the Moderna booster shot are given half the standard dose of the first and second jab, while medical workers can sometimes get more than the standard number of shots from a Pfizer-BNT vial. 2. To date, Taiwan has confirmed 22,463 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 15,550 domestically transmitted infections.

With no deaths reported Thursday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country remained at 853.
