Taiwan records 91 new imported COVID-19 cases

Taipei, March 17 (CNA) Taiwan reported 91 new imported COVID-19 cases, and zero new domestic cases Thursday, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The 91 cases consisted of 34 males and 57 females aged from under 5 to under 90 who entered Taiwan from Feb. 16 to March 16, with 41 of them having tested positive for the virus upon landing in Taiwan, the CECC said.

Nineteen had traveled from the Philippines; 13 from Vietnam; four each from France, Indonesia and Thailand; two each from the United States, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Switzerland, and United Kingdom; and one each from Iran, Myanmar, Malaysia, South Korea, Poland, Singapore, Brazil, and Pakistan, while the travel origin of the remaining 29 cases were being investigated.

To date, Taiwan has confirmed 21,583 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 15,493 domestically transmitted infections.

With no deaths reported on Thursday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in the country remained at 853.
