Taipei, March 13 (CNA) Taiwan reported 63 new COVID-19 cases -- five domestically transmitted and 58 that originated abroad -- and no new deaths from the disease on Sunday, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
Four of the new domestic cases were reported in Tainan, and are connected to a cluster in which the first reported case was an employee at a buffet restaurant in Kaohsiung, CECC official Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞) said in a pre-recorded video.
The cluster has 28 cases to date.
The remaining domestic case reported Sunday is a Taipei resident who tested positive after four others in his family were confirmed with COVID-19, bringing the number of cases in the family cluster to five, Lo said.
Currently, the CECC is monitoring four clusters in Taiwan, all with unknown origins.
Of the new domestic cases Sunday, three had received two or three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, one had received a dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, and the fifth is unvaccinated.
In addition to the domestic cases, the CECC also reported 58 imported cases on Sunday, 35 of whom were travelers who tested positive on arrival in Taiwan. The CECC did not release any information regarding the vaccination status of the imported cases.
To date, Taiwan has confirmed 21,288 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 15,488 domestically transmitted infections.
With no deaths reported on Sunday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country remained at 853.
