Taipei, March 12 (CNA) Taiwan on Saturday reported 62 new COVID-19 cases -- one domestically transmitted and 61 that originated abroad -- and no new deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The day's only new domestic case involves a woman in her 30s, who lives in Taipei and tested positive after three of her relatives were confirmed to be part of a family cluster in the Greater Taipei area, the CECC said.

She has received a dose of the Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine and presented no symptoms, according to the CECC.

The CECC is still investigating how the four individuals in the cluster first identified on Friday contracted the virus through genome sequencing and contact tracing, CECC spokesman Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥) said in a pre-recorded video released Saturday.

1. More doses of the Moderna and Pfizer-BNT vaccine have been administered in Taiwan than the government has officially received because recipients of the Moderna booster shot are given half the standard dose of the first and second jab, while medical workers can sometimes get more than the standard number of shots from a Pfizer-BNT vial. 2. In addition to the domestic cases, the CECC also reported 61 imported cases on Saturday, 36 of whom were travelers who tested positive on arrival in Taiwan. The CECC did not release any information regarding the vaccination status of the imported cases.

To date, Taiwan has confirmed 21,225 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 15,483 domestically transmitted infections.

With no deaths reported on Saturday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country remained at 853.

The figures do not include imported cases reclassified as domestic ones, nor retroactively removed cases. As of March 12, Taiwan recorded 880 domestic cases in 2022, while the total number of imported cases rose to 5,688 from 2,375 on Dec. 31.
