  • 2022 International Narcotics Control Strategy Report Release US Dept. of State 01 Mar 2022 -- The U.S. Department of State submitted the 2022 edition of the annual International Narcotics Control Strategy Report (INCSR) to Congress today. This two-volume, Congressionally-mandated report assesses foreign governments' efforts to reduce illicit drug production, trafficking, and use as well as their work to counter drug trafficking-related money laundering. The INCSR was first published in 1986, and this edition covers calendar year 2021.
  • Treasury Publishes National Risk Assessments for Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, and Proliferation Financing US Treasury 01 Mar 2022 -- The U.S. Department of the Treasury today issued the 2022 National Risk Assessments (NRAs) on Money Laundering (NMLRA), Terrorist Financing (NTFRA) and Proliferation Financing (NPFRA). These documents highlight the most significant illicit finance threats, vulnerabilities, and risks facing the United States. The United States is vulnerable to all three forms of illicit finance because of the size and sophistication of the U.S. financial system and centrality of the U.S. dollar in the payment infrastructure of global trade.
  • Designation of ISIS Organizers and Financial Facilitators based in South Africa US Dept. of State 01 Mar 2022 -- The United States is working with our African partners, including South Africa, to dismantle ISIS financial support networks on the continent. Today, the United States designated four ISIS and ISIS-Mozambique (ISIS-M) financial facilitators in South Africa. Farhad Hoomer, Siraaj Miller, Abdella Hussein Abadigga, and Peter Charles Mbaga are being designated pursuant to E.O. 13224, as amended, which targets terrorist groups and their supporters, among others.
  • Treasury Sanctions South Africa-based ISIS Organizers and Financial Facilitators US Treasury 01 Mar 2022 -- Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated four Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and ISIS-Mozambique (ISIS-M) financial facilitators based in South Africa. ISIS members and associates in South Africa are playing an increasingly central role in facilitating the transfer of funds from the top of the ISIS hierarchy to branches across Africa.
  • New 'Highly Sophisticated' Malware Linked to Chinese Cyberattackers VOA 01 Mar 2022 -- A leading cybersecurity firm says it has discovered a "highly sophisticated" piece of malware being used by Chinese hacking teams to attack government and critical infrastructure targets.
