
Taiwan reports 67 new COVID-19 cases, including 14 domestic

Taipei, Feb. 16 (CNA) Taiwan on Wednesday confirmed 67 new COVID-19 cases, including 14 domestically transmitted and 53 that originated abroad, with no new deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The new domestic cases involved seven males and seven females ranging in age from under five years old to their 50s, the CECC said.
All the new domestic infections were identified as contacts of people with confirmed COVID-19 infections, with 11 fully vaccinated and two linked to a cluster at the Evergreen Resort Hotel Jiaosi in Yilan County.

The figures do not include imported cases reclassified as domestic ones, nor retroactively removed cases. As of Feb. 16, Taiwan recorded 742 domestic and 1,961 imported COVID-19 cases in 2022.
In addition to the domestic cases, Taiwan also reported 53 imported cases on Wednesday, involving arrivals from the United States, the United Kingdom, Indonesia, Japan, Italy, France, India, China, Bangladesh, Ireland, Canada, Malawi, Germany, Mauritius, Spain, Vietnam, the Netherlands and Cambodia.
The country of origin of 14 imported cases is still being investigated.
To date, Taiwan has confirmed a total of 19,732 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 15,342 domestically transmitted infections.
With no deaths reported on Wednesday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in the country remains at 852.
