Taipei, Feb. 15 (CNA) Taiwan on Tuesday took delivery of its second shipment of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine this year, comprising 1.4048 million doses, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The 1.4048 million Moderna doses arrived on China Airlines flight CI-161 from Incheon, South Korea at 1:41 p.m., the CECC said.
The shipment was part of the second deal Taiwan signed in July 2021 with Moderna to procure 35 million doses for 2022-2023, 20 million of which are set to be delivered this year.
With the latest shipment, Taiwan has taken delivery of 2.9169 million of the doses it ordered from the American pharmaceutical company, Health Minister Chen Shih-chung (陳時中) said at a CECC press briefing.
The newly delivered doses are due to expire on April 25, Chen added.
According to the health minister, the newly arrived doses were transported to a cold storage warehouse, where they will be inspected before being released to local governments and administered to the public.
To date, 82.35 percent of Taiwan's population of 23.37 million have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot, while 75.70 percent have gotten two doses, CECC data showed.
Since the introduction of a third dose in late December, 30.65 percent have received a booster dose, and 0.77 percent have been given an additional dose.
