Taipei, Feb. 3 (CNA) Taiwan reported 22 domestic COVID-19 cases on Thursday, including seven from Taoyuan and 15 from Kaohsiung, the two disease hotspots in the country, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The new cases consist of 11 men and 11 women aged between 1 and 80, CECC spokesperson Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥) said in a video statement released Thursday.

He said that two of the Taoyuan infections were associated with the Re-Yi Distribution Service Co., Ltd. cluster, which has so far seen 15 cases.

The logistics company, a Family Mart subsidiary, has been ordered to suspend operations after around 250 of its employees were placed in home quarantine, Chuang said.

About 1,000 more employees will also be quarantined at home as a precaution, he added.

As a result, the Family Mart also announced on Thursday that there would be delays for orders placed during the Lunar New Year period.

Chuang said another domestically transmitted case in the city was linked to a cluster of infections at the Jimmy Bear kindergarten, while the remaining four cases are family members of an imported case from China.

For Kaohsiung, six cases were linked to a cluster that originated at an Yilan County hotel, with the other nine related to the Port of Kaohsiung, according to Chuang.

Taiwan also reported 34 imported cases on Thursday who arrived on the island from the United States, China, Japan, the Philippines, the United Kingdom, Australia, Turkey, Thailand, Germany, Spain, and Sweden.

To date, Taiwan has confirmed 18,958 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 15,118 domestically transmitted infections.

With no deaths reported on Thursday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in the country remains at 851.
