Taiwan reports 64 new COVID-19 cases, including 21 domestic

Taipei, Jan. 27 (CNA) Taiwan reported 64 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, consisting of 21 domestic and 43 imported cases, with zero deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

Of the new domestic cases, eight were linked to a cluster at the Port of Kaohsiung, and 10 were linked to three clusters of unknown origin in Taoyuan and Yilan County, the CECC said.

The three remaining cases were reported in Taoyuan as well, and their sources of infection are unknown, according to the CECC.

Twelve of the new domestic cases were fully vaccinated against COVID-19, seven had not received any vaccine jabs, and the vaccination status of two cases was still under investigation.

In addition to the domestic cases, Taiwan also reported 43 imported cases on Thursday, 15 of which were passengers who tested positive upon arrival in Taiwan on Wednesday. The CECC did not release any information regarding the vaccination status of the imported cases.

To date, Taiwan has confirmed 18,566 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 14,994 domestically transmitted infections.

With no deaths reported on Thursday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in the country remained at 851.
