Taipei, Dec. 31 (CNA) Taiwan on Friday reported 41 new imported COVID-19 cases, the highest number of cases originating overseas recorded since the pandemic began in early 2020, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The 41 individuals entered Taiwan between Dec. 16 and Dec. 30, and at least 34 of them were Taiwanese nationals, while the nationality of one man was listed as "under investigation," a CECC statement said.
Of the new cases, 25 were classified as breakthrough infections, three involved people who were not vaccinated, and the status of the other 13 was being investigated, the CECC said.
The 41 cases eclipsed the previous single day high for imported cases since the COVID-19 pandemic began that was tied a day earlier at 24.
With no deaths reported on Friday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country remained at 850. Taiwan last reported a death related to COVID-19 on Dec. 19, according to the CECC.
