Taipei, Nov. 4 (CNA) Taiwan on Thursday took delivery of 142,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine purchased from the vaccine maker, the 12th vaccine delivery since the contract was signed.

The shipment of the vaccine, which expires on Feb. 28, 2022, landed at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport at 4:14 p.m. on a China Airlines flight that departed from Bangkok.

According to the CECC, the vaccine doses were transported to a designated cold chain warehouse and sealed for inspection by Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration, the standard procedure before the vaccine can be distributed for use.

The latest delivery is part of a 10 million dose order Taiwan signed with the British-Swedish pharmaceutical company on Oct. 30, 2020. To date, 6.53 million doses of that order have been delivered, the CECC said.

As of Thursday, Taiwan had obtained approximately 12.56 million AstraZeneca vaccine doses from the manufacturer, the global vaccine sharing initiative COVAX and donations from other nations, CECC data showed.

According to CECC data, as of Wednesday, approximately 7.79 million people in Taiwan had received their first AstraZeneca shot, and 4.96 million had been fully vaccinated with two doses.

The upcoming round of vaccinations will be available to eligible groups looking to get their first or second jab of the AstraZeneca vaccine and will be administered from Nov. 5-12.
