The latest COVID-19 outbreak in East China's Fujian Province was caused by Delta variant strains, belonging to the same transmission chain, Fujian authorities said during a press conference on Wednesday, after they have completed the genome sequencing.

The sequencing of 336 COVID-19 case samples has been completed, among the cases, 263 complete viral genomes have been sequenced, all of which belonged to the Delta variant, and the same transmission chain, Fujian authorities confirmed.

As of Tuesday, the other regions across the country have no related COVID-19 cases.

From September 10 to Tuesday, Fujian reported 470 locally transmitted COVID-19 positive cases including 467 confirmed cases found in Xiamen, Putian, Quanzhou and Zhangzhou, and three asymptomatic cases in Putian. So far, Fujian still has two high-risk regions and 30 medium-risk regions.

Fujian local culture and tourism authorities have suspended the cross-province tour group businesses after the latest outbreak. Tourist attractions have been temporarily closed and large-scale gathering activities were also canceled.
