Taipei, July 23 (CNA) The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said Friday that anyone who has had their first COVID-19 vaccine jab can now make an appointment for a second shot provided that 10-12 weeks have passed since their first shot.
At a press conference, CECC spokesperson Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥) said eligibility applies to anyone who already had their first AstraZeneca or Moderna jab, the only two vaccine brands that have been used in Taiwan so far.
The CECC recommends COVID-19 vaccine shots to be taken 10-12 weeks apart, with the exception of health workers, cabin crew and pregnant women.
Because of their profession or special condition, those people are allowed to receive a second dose of the Moderna vaccine within the 28-day period recommended by the World Health Organization, according to the CECC.
Another exception, Chuang said Friday, is being made for people with urgent travel plans, who will be eligible to receive a second COVID-19 jab within the recommended dosing interval as long as they can show proof of their itinerary, such as airline tickets.
Appointments for a second jab will need to be made beforehand, and the vaccine can be administered at any of the designated hospitals and clinics in the country (list in Chinese), he said.
