Taipei, July 8 (CNA) The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said Thursday the nationwide Level 3 COVID-19 alert will be extended to July 26, but some regulations will be relaxed next week to allow more social activities.

Health Minister Chen Shih-chung (陳時中), who heads the CECC, said at a press briefing that the current Level 3 alert, which was imposed until July 12, will be maintained for at least another two weeks because there is still a risk of community spread.

Some of the restrictions on daily and social activities, however, will be eased from July 13, allowing among other activities the resumption of onsite restaurant dining, on condition that the seating arrangements adhere to social distancing rules and plastic shields are set up between tables, the CECC said.

In addition, customers are suggested to limit their onsite dining at restaurants to one hour per person, and will be required to wear masks at all times, except when they are eating, the CECC said.

Also from July 13, some scenic spots and facilities such as libraries, museums, cinemas, and gyms will be permitted to reopen, once social distancing regulations are observed and people wear masks at all times, the CECC said.

However, beaches and mountain lodges will remain closed, deputy CECC chief Chen Tsung-yen (陳宗彥) said.

Other types of recreational venues where the mask rule cannot be easily imposed will remain closed, the CECC said, mentioning in particular karaoke clubs, bars, nightclubs and ballrooms.
