Japan to donate another 1.13 million COVID vaccines to Taiwan

Taipei, July 6 (CNA) Japan will make a second COVID-19 vaccine donation to Taiwan of 1.13 million AstraZeneca shots on July 8, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said Tuesday.

Japan donated 1.24 million shots of the same brand to Taiwan on June 4.

Motegi said June 25 that Japan will made a second donation to Taiwan of 1 million COVID-19 vaccines that will be delivered by mid-July.

"In just over a month, Japan has provided a total of 2.37 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Taiwan. We really appreciate that," Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) said Tuesday on a Facebook post.

 

Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) also thanked Japan's government for donating a second batch of vaccines at a time when vaccine supplies are tight in the international market and Japan itself is facing tough COVID-19 challenges domestically.

"The additional donation of 1.13 million doses of vaccine doses to Taiwan proves that the friendship between Taiwan and Japan is rock solid. We believe that Taiwan and Japan can curb the pandemic together," MOFA said in a statement.
