Taipei, June 6 (CNA) United States Senator Ladda Tammy Duckworth announced upon her arrival in Taipei on Sunday that the U.S. will donate 750,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses to Taiwan, as part of its plan to share at least 80 million vaccines doses globally.

"It was critical to the United States that Taiwan be included in the first group to receive vaccines, because we recognize your urgent need and we value this partnership," Duckworth said at Songshan Airport.

Duckworth, along with senators Dan Sullivan and Christopher Coons, arrived at the airport at 7:19 a.m. on a C-17 transport plane. They were received by Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮).

Duckworth and Sullivan are members of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Coons is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. The three are all strong supporters of Taiwan.
