Taiwan reports 585 new COVID-19 cases, 17 deaths

Taipei, June 3 (CNA) Taiwan on Thursday reported 585 new cases of COVID-19, including 583 domestic infections, two imported ones, and 17 deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The domestic cases comprise 364 newly confirmed infections, plus 219 from a backlog of test results confirmed over the past weeks, the CECC said.
The new cases brought the total in the country to 9,974, of which over 8,500 are domestic COVID-19 cases reported since May 15, the first day Taiwan reported over 100 domestic infections since the outbreak began in early 2020.
The 17 fatalities were 13 men and four women, aged 40-100, who passed away between May 28 and June 1.
To date, Taiwan has reported 166 deaths from COVID-19, including 154 since May 15.
Thursday marked the 20th consecutive day Taiwan has recorded over 100 domestically transmitted cases.
