Taipei, April 29 (CNA) Taiwan will send 150 locally made oxygen concentrators to India by the end of this week to support the country's fight against the raging COVID-19 crisis there, Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) said Thursday.

The devices have been modified so that they can function on India's electrical outlets, Wu told reporters before a legislative meeting that day.

His comments came after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said earlier this week that Taiwan was preparing medical aid and other forms of assistance for India as the coronavirus crisis there worsens.

According to Deputy Foreign Minister Miguel Tsao (曹立傑), Taiwan will continue to observe the situation as it develops in order to provide more aid to the country.

As of Wednesday, India had recorded 17,977,267 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 201,187 deaths, according to World Health Organization (WHO) statistics.

Meanwhile, the WHO data showed that there were 360,960 new cases recorded in India that day.
