Taipei, April 12 (CNA) Taiwan on Monday reported one new imported case of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 1,058, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The case involves a Taiwanese woman in her 20s who went to Japan to study in October last year, CECC spokesperson Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥) said at a press briefing.

She returned to Taiwan on April 4 with proof of a negative COVID-19 test result issued within three days of her flight, as is required of everyone entering Taiwan. She then went into quarantine at a hotel, Chuang said.

She began to suffer a headache and nausea on April 9 and was confirmed positive with COVID-19 on Monday, according to Chuang.

To date, Taiwan has recorded 1,058 cases of COVID-19, 942 of which have been classified as imported. Of the total, 1,026 have recovered, 11 have died and 21 are in hospital, according to CECC statistics as of Monday.

Globally, COVID-19 has infected over 135.7 million people in 193 countries and regions, with more than 2.9 million fatalities, CECC data shows.
