More districts in Beijing recently have begun COVID-19 vaccination for seniors aged 60 and above who are in need and who are in good health.

The areas now include the core districts of the capital city Xicheng and Chaoyang, as well as Fengtai, according to the Xinhua News Agency on Sunday.

Seniors can sign up for shots in their neighborhoods, and there has been "quite a high participation in the inoculation based on the number of the sign-ups," Liu Wanying, director of the Fengtai District Health Commission in Beijing, told the media on Sunday.

As for concerns about vaccination for the elderly, Liu added that there should be no concerns for those who are in good physical condition.

However, it is not recommended for seniors with chronic diseases such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular problems.

Some parts of Beijing offered inoculations to seniors in early March, according to a staff member at Yong'anmen community office in Fengtai district.

China was expected to roll out more vaccinations for people aged 60 and above after two sessions, which finished on March 11, Tao Lina, a Shanghai-based vaccine expert, told the Global Times previously.
